„Revisiting the German Genocide in South West Africa“: Video of a public lecture by Henning Melber
Prof. Henning Melber has been invited for a public lecture on „Revisiting the German Genocide in South West Africa (1904 – 1908) – On the Context and Consequences of Colonial Mass Violence“.
This lecture will explore the context and consequences of the Herero and Nama genocide, which was a campaign of racial extermination and collective punishment that the German Empire undertook in German South West Africa (modern-day Namibia) against the Herero, Nama and San people. It is considered the first genocide of the 20th century. The lecture was given at The Cape Town Holocaust Centre on 16th of October 2017.
